Screen Shot 2016-02-04 at 4.56.45 PMHola, world. I am Jackie…the atypical American chick who loves Amsterdam so much that she moved from all family and friends to follow a road less traveled. Most notably, I’m a Hungry Lifetarian, meaning that I am a self-proclaimed risk-taker with the inclination to try anything once, and twice if I like it.

This blog was born in 2013. At the time,  I was doing my academic postdoc at the Netherlands Cancer Center, conducting awesome experiments, which I hoped would lead to new treatment options for cancer patients. Not that I was bored, but I realized that unlike some of my colleagues who are content immersing themselves in science 24/7/365…my mind was wandering. I scoured science blogs, food blogs, fashion blogs, and travel blogs in my down time (with the occasional face-booking or Instagram of course).

In other words, I had (and still have) a helicopter view of the world…and I wanted to know about things.

Flash forward a few years, I still enjoy sharing my experiences with the world, whether it be through foods, photos, or obviously writing.

Most newbie blogger advice articles suggest that I “find a topic and stick to it,” but I’ve never been one to follow the rules.

This is my attempt to fuse (fresh, organic, vegan) food, science, and expat lifestyle  into one (FUN) blog.

I love the idea of this! I think you can combine your love of food and science (and whatever else) into one blog. I think the two go hand in hand quite frankly. I’m a foodie and my best friend is a scientist and it’s amazing how intertwined the two topics are.

totally agree…I always want to prove food trends either right or wrong with empirical data and science behind the claims.

Hi there! I’m Sue, and I’m from SlimKicker, a fitness/diet app and website. I saw your blog yesterday and it captured my interest!

I was wondering if we can do a giveaway for your blog readers?

Our website basically turns people’s fitness/diet goals into a level up game with challenges such as quitting soda for a week. We’re looking for new challenge ideas, so was thinking of holding a contest where your readers leave a comment on a health challenge idea + sign up on our site

We’ll pick our favorite challenge idea, use it on our site, and give the winner either a free digital health scale, slow cooker, or digital heart monitor. We’ve done many giveaways for bloggers in the past – you can google ‘SlimKicker giveaway’ to see. I also encourage you to sign up for our site to see what we’re about too 🙂

Let me know if you’re interested! You can email me back at sue.zheng (at) slimkicker (dot) com.

    Hey Jackie!!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I am having a great time reading through all of your lively and fun posts. It’s so great to find someone with such an amazing background in science who chooses to eat and live this way! I’m constantly watching and reading to try and build my knowledge for the MANY questions that come once people find out about my plant-based diet! I’m excited to try out some of your recipes, especially the quinoa pizza crust – how healthy and awesome!
    Great to meet,
